EMPLOYMENT LAW: VACATION / PUBLIC HOLIDAYS RULES
Public Holiday Rules: A right but also a duty
Vacation is one of the employee’s rights. The idea of such a right is to allow the employee to fulfill his/her duty of loyalty towards his/her employer by getting some rest during the year in order to perform quality work. This means that if, during the vacation period, an employee is prevented from getting some rest (ex. due to sickness), the concerned time does not count as vacation and the latter has to be postponed.

Vacations
Vacation and public holidays are considered entitlements for employees in Singapore. These provisions are designed to ensure that employees have adequate rest and recuperation, thereby promoting job satisfaction and productivity.
Annual Leave
All employees are entitled to annual leave, with the number of days increasing based on the length of service. The Employment Act outlines minimum annual leave entitlements, and employees cannot be forced to take leave against their will.
Public Holidays
Singapore observes several public holidays each year, and employees are generally entitled to paid public holidays. If a public holiday falls on a non-working day, employees are usually entitled to a substitute day off or additional pay.
