Different Types of Permits in Singapore

Singapore permits

In Singapore, the Immigration and Checkpoint Authority (ICA) regulates the different permits and visas for foreigners. To live and work in Singapore, foreigners are required to obtain the relevant passes, such as the Employment Pass (EP), S Pass, or Work Permit, depending on their qualification and job roles.

Singapore has its own set of regulations for foreign workers. Obtaining a work pass involves several factors, such as whether the applicant has a job offer from a Singapore-registered company, the type of pass required based on the applicant’s qualifications and job role, and the company’s adherence to quota limits for foreign workers.

The Employment Pass is for foreign professionals, managers, and executives with a job offer and a recognised qualification. The S Pass is for mid-skilled workers who meet specific criteria, while the Work Permit is for lower-skilled foreign workers across various industries. Employers must comply with Singapore’s rules on hiring foreign workers, including quotas and levies.

For foreigners over 55 who wish to retire in Singapore, specific long-term visit passes or other residency options may be available, subject to certain conditions and approval from the relevant authorities.

The Employment Pass (EP) is available to foreign professionals, managers, and executives with a valid job offer in Singapore and recognized qualifications. Eligibility is based on the applicant’s qualifications, job role, and the employer’s compliance with regulatory requirements.

The S Pass allows mid-skilled foreign workers to work in Singapore, provided they meet specific criteria, including qualifications and salary requirements as stipulated by the Ministry of Manpower. Applicants must be sponsored by a Singaporean employer, and there are limits on the number of foreign workers a company is allowed to hire.

Permanent Residency (PR) in Singapore can be obtained through various schemes, such as the Professionals/Technical Personnel & Skilled Workers scheme or the Global Investor Program. Applicants are required to demonstrate a strong commitment to living and contributing to Singapore, and they are evaluated based on employment history, educational qualifications, and contributions to the community.

For extended stays in Singapore, you can apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass or an Employment Pass, depending on the purpose of your stay such as employment or family reunification. These passes allow for lawful residence and work in Singapore while your application is under review.
